COVER SIZING NOTES / 2026-10-22

Extra margins around your cover PDF?

Can I crop extra margins from a Canva cover PDF for KDP?

Only crop when the unwanted space is outside the artwork and the remaining full-wrap page matches your current KDP template, including its required bleed. Compare the exported PDF page size with the template first. A white edge may be missing artwork or intended design, rather than extra page margin.

Check the exported PDF, not just the design canvas

When an exported cover has unexpected space, compare the PDF’s actual page dimensions with the intended full-wrap dimensions. Export options can change what is included in a file. A design canvas already sized to a print template and an added export margin are different things. Do not assume that every Canva PDF has the same problem or use one export setting as a universal fix.

Start with the current KDP template, then inspect the page you actually exported. If a correct re-export from your design app solves the problem, you do not need a paid correction.

A measured crop example

This is a synthetic demonstration, not a customer result or a universal KDP cover size. The original page is 13.2004 × 9.75 inches; the example target is 12.7004 × 9.25 inches. The difference is 0.5 inches in each dimension, so a centered crop removes 0.25 inches from each edge. The retained artwork stays at its original scale.

Open the synthetic original PDF, or use “Try a sample cover” in the tool to inspect the actual correction.

When cropping is the wrong operation

The tool cannot decide that the outer space is safe to discard. You must compare the preview and official template before exporting. Compare cropping with proportional resizing.
